Christian Education Classes for Ages 4 – 10
An integral part of Trinity’s faith-formation program for children is our Sunday school classes, which are held every Sunday (from September through early June) from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in Trinity Hall.
What class levels are available?
We have two “Godly Play” classes: one for 4 and 5 year olds, and the other for 1 st and 2 nd graders. Our program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders is called FaithQuest. (See "What is Godly Play?" for more background)
What about younger and older children?
Faith formation takes root early in a child's life. We provide a safe and loving environment for infants through 3 year olds in our nursery, supervised by professional childcare workers. Nursery care is held 10:00 a.m. in the Meadow Room a warm and attractive new room in Angus Hall. Children who are in junior high and high school can become part of our active youth group, which meets every Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Youth Room in Trinity Hall.
What is Godly Play?
It is a Christian education approach that enables children to experience the presence of a loving God and discover how to “speak the language” of their biblical faith. The goal of the program is to teach children the art of using religious language, parable, sacred story, silence, and liturgical action to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence around them and in their lives. What is FaithQuest?
A program to designed to draw older children into the stories of our faith and encourages them to connect these stories with their own lives. It incorporates activities and field trips that are geared to the developmental levels of upper elementary aged children. Students will have the opportunity to participate in such exciting activities as a “Sanctuary Safari,” field trip to Grace Cathedral, and serving meals in a homeless shelter.
Do I have to pre-register, or can I just “drop in”?
Our program runs concurrently with the school year: September through May. We encourage registration in the fall, but children can join the classes at any time during the year. If you are not sure how your children will do, feel free to try it out one Sunday. The 4 and 5 year olds meet in the Good Shepard Room, 1st and 2nd graders in the Trinity Hall Room, and 3rd through 5th graders in the Library.
